Charlotte's Tech/Fintech Companies Partnering with Boards to Put Charlotte on the Tech Startup Map

We will be discussing the role that the board has played in the growth of Charlotte-based technology companies, as well as how Charlotte’s tech entrepreneurs and their boards have partnered to put Charlotte on the Tech Startup map.  Our panelists will include executive leaders of both AvidXchange and 2ULaundry, two Charlotte based fintech/technology sector companies who have experienced successful growth over the past several years.  EY’s Financial Services Growth Markets leader, Brad Wallace, will moderate the panel discussion.  We will also be joined by Board/Committee members of the Carolina FinTech Hub.  The Carolina Fintech Hub’s mission is to foster the growth/development of the FinTech ecosystem here in the Carolinas.  EY has graciously underwritten the Program for the PDA.





Steve Boehm
Chief Operating Officer


Steve has served in strategic leadership roles for large businesses within highly-competitive and rapidly-changing industries. Steve has joined AvidXchange as the Chief Operating Officer. Previously, Boehm most worked for eBay Inc. as Senior Vice President, Global Customer Experience, where he led a 9,000-person team across 25 locations and 15 time zones. He led customer service, billing and payments, risk and policy and customer trust teams. His and his teams’ focus was to make eBay easier to use, more reliable, and more consistent from the customer’s standpoint. Prior to that, Steve spent the majority of his career in the financial services and payments sectors. He held senior leadership positions at First Data Corp., Wells Fargo/ Wachovia Corp. and Visa. He and his wife Mary reside in Matthews, NC.


Alex Smereczniak

Alex Smereczniak is the CEO & Co-Founder of 2ULaundry. Prior to launching 2ULaundry, Alex worked as a Financial Consultant at Ernst & Young for 2 years. He received his BS from Wake Forest University, where he sold his first laundry startup for a 10x return. 



Brad Wallace

Brad is a founding Principal of EY’s Digital Advisory practice and also leads EY’s Growth Markets in the South.  As EY’s Growth Markets lead, he works to identify and promote innovative and promising startups through EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year program and also connecting them into EY’s vast set of resources for startups. Brad is also a founding board member of the Carolina FinTech Hub, an organization focused on advancing the FinTech talent pool and interconnectivity between FinTechs and large Fis,  Brad was part of the team who built EY’s first innovation center (EY wavespaceTM) in NYC in 2015.  Since then, EY has built more than 15 around the world, with the next one opening in Charlotte’s South End in the fall of 2019.
