The CARES Act PPP Funding poses financial, accounting, legal and even potentially moral issues for many companies who received a loan through the program.  Directors should be informed and be prepared to discuss these issues with senior management, provide advice, and make sure they are mindful of the complex responsibilities fiduciary directors have in these rapidly changing and unpredictable times. A panel of experts has been gathered to inform directors and business owners how to best minimize risks and navigate through this uncertainty.

Alexander (Alex) Lara leads the commercial banking program at the University of Houston and leads his own international advisory group focusing on treasury and credit services.

Alex had a distinguished career in commercial banking with Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase.

Alex has a bachelor’s degree from Universidad International and an MBA from Alliant International University. He is a founder of the Houston Chapter of the Private Directors Association.

Herbert Kalman is the founder of two successful CPA firms that sold to large regional CPA firms.

Herb has a BS in Accounting from the University of Houston, He is a founder of the Houston Chapter of the Private Directors Association.



Alan Aldworth
Board Director and Chief Executive

Alan Aldworth is the President of the Houston Chapter of the Private Directors Association. He is currently a director and partner in the consulting firm T.I.E.C., Inc,  is Vice Chairman or EA Renfroe, Inc., and serves on the boards of GSP, Inc, and Leopardo Companies.   He was the Chairman and CEO of ProQuest Company, a publicly traded digital education and business information public company. He also founded and led Tribune Education, which published the most widely used math curriculum in the U.S. along with several other innovative scientifically based, and technology based education programs.

He is a graduate of the Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management, has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from DePaul University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
