One of the key offerings of the PDA is the Director Training and Referral Program. This program helps aspiring directors prepare for their first seat. The program addresses written materials, interview preparation and the search process. Join us to hear from coaches, recent students, and experienced directors who have earned board seats based on completing the program.



Bill Edwards
Renewal Alliance LLC

Bill Edwards has over 30 years of experience leading manufacturing, logistics, and industrial distribution companies.  He has successfully launched new businesses, developed and implemented significantly changed strategies in existing businesses, and led turnaround situations. 

His industry experience includes automotive components, chemicals, and steel manufacturing, plus B2B logistics.  As an entrepreneur, his manufacturer’s rep business has helped international companies start operations in the U.S.

Bill is committed to learning and implementing the best corporate governance practices.  He has participated in many developmental opportunities through the Private Directors Association since 2016, and received the NACD Governance Fellow certification in 2013.

Beside his business career, Bill was a part-time firefighter for 18 years in two Chicago suburbs – an experience that continues to shape his straightforward, team-based, mission-focused leadership, communication, and decision-making style.

He has an MBA from the University of Chicago, and a Bachelor of Industrial & Systems Engineering degree from Georgia Tech.


Liz Levy-Navarro

Liz A. Levy-Navarro is a public and private company board member, former CEO, value creation specialist, and investment expert who helps insurance, asset management, banking, and consumer products leaders grow their businesses and brands. 

Levy-Navarro serves on several public and private company boards:

  • Wilshire Funds Board, a NYSE listed public fund complex.  She is a member of their Audit, Investment, and Nominating Committees
  • Alper Services Board, a commercial insurance and benefits brokerage company, serving as Board Chair, and on their Finance and Compensation Committees
  • Burke Distributor Holdings Board, a regional beverage distributorship, serving on their Compensation Committee
  • Gold Eagle Company Board, a consumer products and manufacturing company

Levy-Navarro has led two thriving businesses for over 20 years, and now serves as a corporate advisor on a range of business growth issues.  She holds a MBA in Finance from The Wharton School, and a BBA in Marketing from University of Michigan.


Lawrence Taylor

Lawrence is a seasoned executive and advisor with more than thirty years of business experience.  He has led organizations through complex restructurings, acquisitions, corporate development activities and capital transactions. As an executive and advisor, he has set strategic, financial, operating and turnaround strategies across multiple industries including, casino gaming, hospitality, manufacturing, aviation, real estate, retail, healthcare and medical technology. Over the course of his business career he held positions ranging from financial analyst to corporate director of investor relations to chief financial officer and has extensive knowledge of strategy, corporate finance, financial planning and operations. Most recently, he was EVP of Corporate Development for a large multi-location healthcare practice where he was responsible for development activities and acquisitions.  Prior to that he was a partner and managing director in a financial advisory firm that advised on and restructured over $15 billion of debt across a variety of industries.

During his career, Lawrence has served on multiple boards (For Profit and Non-Profit) and a variety of board committees (Finance, Compensation, Strategic Planning and Restructuring Committees), including two companies in Chapter 11 – once as an executive and once as an independent director and chair of the restructuring committee. He is currently on the board of Barrie House Coffee and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, as well as the board of managers of CLP Holdings III, LLC.

A native of New Orleans, Lawrence currently resides in Litchfield Park, AZ with his wife and daughter and is an avid woodturner, cyclist and tennis player.



Bruce Werner

Bruce Werner is the Managing Director of Kona Advisors LLC,  which provides governance and owner advisory services to middle market businesses. His range of assignments has included M&A, strategy, finance, workout, succession planning and all facets of family business consulting. Mr. Werner is an experienced outside  director,  having served on numerous boards during periods of growth, restructuring and crisis management.

He writes and speaks on governance issues impacting the middle market.
