Family Business Center Support

The Private Directors Association®  (PDA) understands that there are many issues that are unique to private and family company boards and has resources to work with private and family business centers to help them address these issues.  PDA and its members assist private and family business centers by helping build company value through assisting their members in the formation and strengthening of effective boards.

We understand the value that family and private business centers provide to businesses. These include opportunities for learning from others with similar businesses, similar ownership challenges and similar issues relating to the ongoing governance and growth of the business. We have been a resource for the Loyola Family Business Center in Chicago as well as the Wake Forest Center for Private Business and are in the process of extending that reach to other centers throughout the United States.  PDA and its members can support private and family businesses as well as the business centers and groups that support them in a variety of ways.

  • The focus of PDA is on the Board. Our goal is to support private and family business centers and work with their member companies to provide a resource for the board related issues. PDA works with centers and their member companies to help them build and strengthen the appropriate type of board, whether fiduciary or advisory, and helps them to understand the differences between these two as well.  Having a board that includes independent advisors in addition to the ownership representation can help with a variety of cross-industry experiences and insights to cultivate a vision for success.  Click here for more information on the Value Private Companies Receive from Their Boards.

  • Many PDA members are consultants who have worked specifically on board governance issues. PDA also includes many members who have counseled and coached owners through the issues that take place outside the walls of the company, but are amplified by bringing home to work. Please Contact Us for more information.

  • We are also a resource for recruiting board members. At the end of 2018, we had nearly 700 board ready members, and we have helped to place numerous independent board members on private company boards around the country. Click here for more information on our Board Recruiting Support.
