Overview

Special summer cohort program exploring the wide range of board service paths and roles available to PDA members.

Participants will be challenged to consider their ultimate board journey and bucket list in this multi-part Zoom experience. The journey and destination will be unique for everyone. This cohort-style program is designed to progressively explore the most common paths for board service. A wide range of organizations and types of boards will be discussed, and the target skill set, and experience required to reach specific board roles.  From building the foundation for aspiring first-time board members to achieving senior leadership roles as chairperson or lead independent director, this program has something for everyone.

Throughout the program, knowledge and skills assessments will help participants gauge their expertise on board-related topics in over 20 essential areas.  Special guests and group interactions will allow participants to develop personalized gap assessments to set professional development, experience, and knowledge development goals to help them reach their desired board service roles.

For each of the significant stages of board director development, we will explore as a group the following components for Aspiring, Seated, and Highly Experienced board members:

  • Overview of the director's contribution to the organization and board
  • Roles, experience, and progressive organizational size, mission, and complexity
  • Director educational resources and experience needs
  • Networking strategies and opportunities
  • Personal branding
  • Ecosystem participants and programs

Each program will be recorded and available for replay for existing PDA members via the PDA website a few days following each event.
