Alex Cole focuses her real estate practice in the areas of real estate transactions and development, hospitality, international real estate, project finance and construction law.  She is routinely involved in large real estate acquisitions (hotel, office and retail) and represents all the various parties in the construction and development process.  Some of Alex's past projects include: Park Hyatt Australia, purchase and disposition of The Carlyle in a transaction including the sale of Rosewood Hotels and Resorts and four other hotels, Fairmont Hotel and Canadian Pacific Hotel merger, numerous buildings in Illinois Center, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, The Harold Washington Library, California Plaza in Los Angeles, McCormick Place Expansion and Hotel, Underwater World at Pier 39, Warsaw Financial Center, and the construction and renovation of numerous plants, industrial complexes, hotels, shopping centers and other commercial projects in the United States and Europe.

 

Tom Goldblatt

Tom founded Ravinia Capital in 1998 and serves as Managing Partner. Businesses hire Ravinia Capital to sell companies, raise senior debt, junior capital and equity; to advise sellers and buyers of businesses; and to structure, execute, and close transactions.

Tom specializes in getting deals done, and in developing creative solutions for transactions. Tom and Ravinia Capital were awarded the Acquisition International's U.S. Debt and Equity Sourcing Firm of the Year, M&A Advisor's Distressed Dealmaker of the Year, and Wealth and Finance International's Annual Best for M&A Advisory – Illinois.

His background gives him a unique ability to understand the needs of the company owner and the buyer, and helps all parties navigate the inevitable complexities involved in any transaction. He has hands-on proficiency in sales, marketing, purchasing, sourcing, accounting, contracting and operations as well as proven accomplishments in cost reduction, product development, mergers and acquisitions, and business re-organization.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a JD law degree from the University of Chicago, and MBA from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University. Tom is a CTP (Certified Turnaround Professional) and has passed the Series 79, 82 and 63 Securities Exams.

Tom is a frequent speaker on alternative capital raises in challenging situations and distressed investing. 

He is the current Chairman, Anti-Defamation League, Greater Chicago/Upper Midwest Regional Board, a two-year appointment.  

 

Chuck Schultz
Partner

Chuck is the Partner responsible for FGMK’s Estate and Succession Planning Practice. He is a licensed CPA and attorney with over 30 years of experience in providing sophisticated international and domestic estate, income and business tax planning services for high-net-worth individuals, owners of closely held businesses and family offices.

Chuck is a frequent presenter and author, providing guidance on a number of important tax topics faced by taxpayers. His publications include articles in Tax Advisor Magazine, Real Estate Solutions, and Investment and Wealth Monitor. He has delivered a presentation to the Chicago Estate Planning Counsel regarding international tax planning. Chuck also provided guidance at the AICPA National Tax Conference on estate and trust tax planning strategies.

Prior to joining FGMK in 2017, Chuck was a national tax partner in the private client service group at RSM in Washington. He previously served as national tax director at the Washington, D.C. office of Coopers & Lybrand, as senior tax manager at Deloitte in Chicago and as vice president and chief compliance officer for Allstate Financial Services and Allstate Financial Advisors. Chuck has also served as an adjunct faculty member at the Georgetown University School of Law and has hosted a daily radio tax topic program on WPGC FM in Washington, D.C.

Chris Engelman, CFA, CIC

Chris has deep experience in portfolio management and alternative investment strategies and is an equity owner of Parkside. He held the position of Chief Investment Officer at Cedar Hill for two years before moving to Parkside where Chris is instrumental in client communications and shaping investment strategy for our clients. Prior to joining Cedar Hill in 2003, Chris worked at Asset Consulting Group, assisting family offices in developing asset allocation strategies and evaluating traditional and alternative investment managers.

Chris earned his Bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College and his MBA in Finance from Washington University in St. Louis. Chris is a CFA® charterholder, Chartered Investment Counselor and a member of the CFA Society of Chicago.

Chris has generational ties to the north shore where he resides surrounded by females:  his wife, tween daughters and Peaches, the lab.
