Sara L. Faivre, Ph.D. is a dedicated public and private company BOD with expertise in agriculture, sustainability and biotechnology. She was appointed to the Board of the Farmer Mac by President Obama. She Co-Chairs the Austin chapter of of Women Corporate Directors Association. Dr. Sara Faivre will share the lessons she has learned as a private board director and entrepreneur.

Dr. Sara Faivre is a dedicated public and private company Board Director with expertise in agriculture, sustainability, mortgage banking and biotechnology. Sara has managed, consulted with and governed diverse company teams through startup-to-sustainable growth, Csuite changes, government regulatory hurdles, corporate rebranding, and cultural transformation. 

Dr. Faivre excels in strategic evaluation of complex issues, particularly at the intersection of business, science and culture. She is well-qualified to serve on Compensation, Nom-Gov, Audit and Risk committees in public or private companies. 

Dr. Faivre was appointed to the Board of the Farmer Mac (NYSE:AGM) in 2010 by President Obama. On that board, she chairs the Strategy & Business Development Committee and serves on the Compensation Committee and Public Policy & Corporate Social Responsibility Committee. She served 10 years on Audit and has also served on the Enterprise Risk and Corporate Governance committees. 

Dr. Faivre currently serves three early-stage companies in board or advisory roles. She is the first independent board member of One More Cloud, a cloud technology company in Austin, TX. She is on the advisory boards of Harvest Returns, an agriculture investment firm and Earthwise Global, an agtech startup, where she also chairs the science and technology committee. In these organizations, she provides leadership inside and outside the board room in governance best practices, strategy, corporate culture and business development. 

Dr. Faivre is passionate about great governance and stakeholder value. She is a Board Leadership Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors and sits on the advisory board for NACD-Texas Tri-Cities. She co-chairs the Austin chapter of Women Corporate Directors and is a founding board member of the Central Texas chapter of the Private Directors Association. She was named a 2020 “Director to Watch” by Directors and Boards. 

Her broad experience in agriculture, biotechnology, and sustainability inform her approach to boardroom issues. Dr. Faivre co-founded and held executive positions in two agricultural biotech startups. As a scientist, Dr. Faivre worked on the human and livestock genome projects and was a pioneer in the practical application of molecular genetics in animal agriculture. From 2005-2017 she was a full-time operator of Wild Type Ranch, the grass-fed beef company she founded. She is an investor in sustainable ag and agtech and served on the advisory board for a Fortune 500 private investor in plant, animal and human biotech and as a mentor for DivInc, Austin’s diversity-focused incubator. 

Dr. Faivre graduated with honors from Iowa State with a B.S. in Ag Business and Animal Science and holds a Ph.D. in Genetics from Texas A&M. A lifelong learner, she continues professional education Sustainability and ESG. 

Sara is an avid horsewoman who spends as much time as possible on her Central Texas ranch with her husband and horses. She is an aspiring classical guitar and bluegrass banjo player and is the proud parent of two college-age boys.
