What type of direction and guidance is given to compa ny management and boards by these organizations on implementing DEI? This expert panel will look at challenges, learnings and outcomes and will shar e best practices in authentically implementing DEI in Board recruitment, re tention, operations and education. Alan served as the CEO of ProQuest Company, a publicly tr aded technology company, and as CFO for both Bell+Howell Company and for Tr ibune Publishing Company. He founded the Education and New Media division of Tribune Company and led it until it’s sale to McGraw Hill.
He has served on over a dozen boards including public companies, private companies , venture backed early stage companies and not-for- profit organizations. p>
Alan received an undergraduate degree in commerce and accounting from DePaul University and a master’s degree in management from Northwestern Uni versity Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Heather Ca ruso is a faculty member and assistant dean at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, with a passion for helping people to grow, inspire, and work ef fectively together. Fascinated by years of observing workplace dynamics as a Silicon Valley engineer and executive, Heather launched her career as an academic with an A.M. in Social Psychology and a Ph.D. in Organizational Be havior - Social Psychology, both at Harvard. Layering rigorous academic tra ining on top of practical experience, Heather’s interests ultimately ground ed themselves in leadership priorities: facilitating equity and inclusion; collaboration in diverse teams; managing identity, power, and influence; an d strategies for optimal choice, judgment, decision making. After pursuing these interests in over a decade of teaching, research administration, and scholarship at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Heather moved to UCLA Anderson to enrich and expand her work.
