Managing Investors on Your Board

Overview

Business owners having raised outside capital or undergone a liquidity event are likely to find themselves managing a board of directors controlled by institutional investors or one or more private equity funds.  The transition from an owner-controlled board to one comprised of a majority representatives from professional investors can be challenging.  Our panel will share their experiences with this transition as well as discuss the pitfalls, challenges and best practices in managing an investor-controlled board

Tracey A Carragher
Managing Partner
TCH Holdings

Tracey A Carragher serves as Managing Partner of TCH Holdings: a private investment and consulting firm. Clients range from Lloyds firms looking to expand into the US to firms searching for insurtech  capabilities.  Currently, Tracey serves as advisor to the myriad of companies where her investment group participates.

Ms. Carragher began her career as a consultant at McKinsey and Anistics and an underwriter at General Reinsurance. Reporting to the President of Aon, she had responsibilities that included building several large verticals and consulting capabilities, while running and growing the worldwide Alternative Risk capabilities. Her responsibilities included managing large premium portfolios and the companies directly supporting the businesses.

In 2009, Tracey started her own firm with a close group of associates. Breckenridge became a key player in the Wholesale and Managing underwriting arena. Much of the growth was funded by a private equity firm. Although Carragher was the first woman in insurance to raise PE funds, and grew her firm to a large and successful enterprise, she credits the success and overwhelming recognition to total ignorance that no woman had done this before(!) and a firm commitment to diversity and teamwork. She was recognized for this and named Insurance Woman of the Year in 2018. She has received many awards like this in her past; and while appreciated, credits any success to great colleagues and family support. The foundation she formed supports causes like Station Foundation for veterans, underserved children and pet causes.
