The Detroit Chapter of the Private Directors Association is pleased to host a panel discussion on Enterprise Risk Management. As businesses face an increasingly complex and uncertain environment, it is critical for organizations to develop robust risk management strategies to mitigate potential threats and capitalize on opportunities. Our distinguished panel of experts will share their insights on the current state of Enterprise Risk Management, the challenges and opportunities in implementing effective risk management strategies, and the impact of ERM on business performance. Laurie Champion
Managing Director
Marsh & McLennan Companies

Laurie Champion Managing Director, Marsh Laurie Champion is a managing director and global client executive with Marsh. She assists global clients in understanding and managing their risks, and leads Marsh’s global service teams who support those clients. Laurie is a recognized expert in corporate risk management, risk governance and strategy, and enterprise risk management. She is based in Detroit, Michigan and is focused in the manufacturing/automotive, transportation, and technology/security sectors. Previously, she served as the head of risk management for Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, Michigan) and Coca-Cola Enterprises (Atlanta, Georgia). Laurie earned her MBA in finance and international business from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. She is a frequent speaker and presenter, and serves as an instructor for Carnegie Mellon’s Chief Risk Officer certification program. Among other volunteer service, Laurie serves currently on the boards of the Georgia State University Risk Management Foundation, and the Michigan Crossroads Council of the Boys Scouts of America serving over 65,000 youth in the state of Michigan.

Yvette serves as Grant Thornton’s Strategic Risk Management Leader within Risk Advisory Services. She has over 25 years of domestic and international risk management experience. Yvette provides leading risk insights to global, national, and regional organizations interested in improving risk management governance to drive growth and value.

Yvette is an executive leader with experience in Enterprise Risk Management including, the oversight of risk and compliance frameworks, model risk design and testing, and implementing successful de-risking solutions to optimize performance and reduce volatility. Yvette focuses on helping organizations achieve results through a variety of risk management approaches informed by resiliency principles and integrated business planning.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Yvette’s experience included leadership roles as a Chief Risk Officer/Insurance Co, Managing Director and Practice Lead- Financial Services for a global consulting company and the Head of Client Engagement and Data Analytics for a global consulting organization. She has a proven record of succeeding in complex environments and addressing emerging, atypical and fast paced risks. She designs and implements risk frameworks and risk processes widely recognized for their effectiveness in enhancing risk governance.

Earlier in her career, Yvette served as Head of Global Risk Management for Vulcan Inc., a privately held company owned by Paul G. Allen, with a diverse portfolio of more than 200 operating companies including insurance companies, energy, finance, sports and entertainment, healthcare, and communication/media. She also served as Vice President of Risk Management at Roll International (‘The Wonderful Company’), a global food producer, distributor and product manufacturer, as well as Director of Risk Management at Sutter Health. In 2013, Business Insurance magazine named Yvette as one of the global “Women to Watch” in Risk Management. In 2009, Treasury and Risk named Yvette to its prestigious “40 under 40 list”. 

      

Jamal Farhat
Recognized Global Leader

Jamal Farhat is a recognized global leader with over 35 year experience in information technology, cyber security, outsourcing, system development, and technology/management consulting for many global public and private companies. He has held top management positions for manufacturing, engineering, and industrial companies in areas such as IT, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Customer Service, Program and Engineering Management. Jamal served as a Corporate Vice President and Chief Information Officer at BorgWarner, a $14.5 billion Fortune 500 publicly traded engineering and manufacturing company with 48,000 employees in 99 global locations. Company offers propulsion products for traditional, hybrid, and electrical vehicles.

He served on the board of a BorgWarner Joint Venture company with Chinese Auto maker consortium and has served on many advisory boards of public technology companies such Cisco, AT&T, and Microsoft, as well as private tech startups such as QLIK (data analytics) and TextIQ (artificial intelligence). He was also a member of the state of Michigan CIO board. A member of the Private Director Association, the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), and an NACD Governance.

Jamal holds a Bachelor and Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from Washington University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He Holds various industry certifications including APICS CIRM and PMP. 

A proven track record in strategic planning, business digital transformation, organizational development, operational excellence, global leadership, and MD&A . He brings to the board proven executive leadership, thought and global diversity, critical thinking, and diplomacy. Areas of board contributions include business digital transformation, enterprise software and technology strategy, cyber security, data privacy, data analytics, enterprise risk management.

Kimberly Rodriguez

Executive and Entrepreneur
  

 
 

Kimberly is a renowned expert in transforming global organizations to maximize efficiencies in supply chain, manufacturing and operational performance. During her 30-year career, she has assisted automakers and suppliers in driving value creation by leveraging the interface between finance, operational (plant floor) efficiency, and the effective use of technology. Kimberly currently serves as a principal of her own firm SCRM, providing independent consulting services, largely to equity funds and multiple holding family funds relating to sales growth, efficiency and market strategy.

Most recently Kimberly was the Chief Executive Officer for Dura Automotive Systems. Prior to joining Dura, Kimberly was Chief Executive Officer of Rush Trucking, a $100 million long-haul trucking company. During the 2020 COVID Automotive shutdown, she helped to dramatically improve efficiency, reduce equipment cost in half and quadruple the customer base for Rush.

Kimberly sits on the Board of Directors for AMG Industries, LLC., and Romeo Rim, as well as on the Executive Committee and General Board for The Children’s Center, a Detroit-based non-profit. She is a founding member and the first female chair of the Private Director’s Association, which provides training and insight for existing and potential board members of privately held companies. In 2019 she was named “Director to Watch” by Directors & Boards Magazine.

Kimberly earned a Bachelor of Art in economics and accounting from Michigan State University and a Master’s in business administration from Walsh College.
